Gwisin
Classification: A-3
Alternate Names: Korean Ghost, spirit
Place(s) of Sighting: North and South Korea often in abandoned or secluded areas including but not limited to houses, warehouses, cemeteries, lakes, and forests, usually of personal significance to the Gwisin
Threat Level: Low to Medium
Sightings Frequency: Very Frequent
Appearance: Gwisin are similar in appearance to ghosts. They are transparent to semi-transparent. Unlike the Western counterpart, Gwisin generally hop from location to location, although eye witness accounts have said they have seen these creatures float, fly, and crawl, as well. These ancient beings are clothed in whatever their body is clothed in. Some have been reported wearing traditional white funerary Korean Hanbok. They almost exclusively take the form of an Asian female. They usually have long black hair, that is loose, and shrouding their face.
Characteristics: Gwisin have the ability to turn invisible, and pass through solid objects. They do not need to breathe, so they can inhabit watery areas, as well. They are believed to have been humans who have unresolved business on earth, that prevents their souls from leaving after death. Their personalities and temperament differ depending on their personality and temperament in life, and mode of death. It is believed that they inhabit areas, objects, or people related to their individual unresolved condition. Gwisin do not immediately learn to manipulate their surroundings. Therefore it is believed the more ancient the Gwisin, the larger the threat.
History: There are numerous stories about Gwisin encounters. It is difficult to sort fact from fiction, or imagination from reality.
There has been one case where a Gwisin has bonded with a SPIRE Field Agent. *Classified*
Containment Procedure (If known): Gwisin have the ability to move through solid objects, so they cannot be contained. The only know method of exterminating a Gwisin is by investigating and resolving the issue that is binding the individual Gwisin to the earth.
Field Agent Personal Notes & Comments: Gwisin may or may not be dangerous. Getting to know the personality of the Gwisin may be invaluable to resolving the Gwisin's issue. However, bonding with a Gwisin can be extremely hazardous, since you may not be able to get rid of the Gwisin in the case his or her issue is unresolvable. Assuming a bond does occur, the Gwisin may then interfere with other aspects of the agent's life, including other cases, or interact with other anomalies the agent may encounter. If the Gwisin's interference proves uncontrollable, the agent may be dismissed from SPIRE.

- Find out the story and history of the individual Gwisin. Do not interact with the Gwisin more than necessary. The Gwisin may find reason to bind to the investigation agent, which could inhibit the agent from performing their job adequately. Suggested methods of investigation involve finding out the local rumors surrounding the Gwisin, and the items or locations or people the Gwisin seemed bonded to. Researching ancient texts, newspaper articles, and internet databases should follow.
- After identifying the perceived unresolved issue, the agent may approach the Gwisin with caution, and attempt to help the Gwisin resolve the issue. Depending on how long ago the Gwisin's human form has passed away, the Gwisin may have differing levels of empathy for humans, or the ability to communicate with humans. If the Gwisin has an older history, proceed with extreme caution, and with a team. It is suggested to have a Korean translator who is familiar with Korean traditions.
