Discovery Division Division
Director: Dr. Yuri Gagarin
Overview
The first step to containing or terminating any anomaly is to first learn of its existence. Many anomalies are overlooked by the average population as luck and happenstance. Some of these entities choose to be seen as benign or mundane, hiding out often in plain sight. It is up to the agents in Discovery to discern what is truly ordinary and coincidence and what exists beyond the natural realm.
Agents of Discovery will often seek out local rumors, comb media sources, read obscure publications, and decipher ancient manuscripts to learn of potential anamolies. The invention of the internet and modern media has been both a boon and curse to the Discovery team, as the sheer amount of information to search through has increased nearly tenfold in the last few decades.
Nonetheless, the job of Discovery is never-ending, as even in our modern world, anomalies are found in all things both mundane and fantastic.
Procedure
Agents in Discovery will often use multiple sources to confirm the potential existence of an anomaly.
- The Internet: The development of the internet has allows our agents to locate many anomalies previously hidden simply by the sheer amount of information now publicly available. The internet has also given the average civilian a location to voice their opinion, and many anomalies have been found by searching deeply in the blogs of disturbed individuals.
- News Publications: The news and media have always been a mainstay method of discovering new anomalies. Many strange phenomena and sightings have been listed in publications, and will often give clues to the whereabouts of hidden paranormal entities and objects.
- Ancient Texts: Anomalies have existed long before the founding of SPIRE, and many of these older anomalies continue to thrive in modern society. Old folklore, myths, and stories have often yielded the discovery of anomalies, both benevolent and evil.
- Local Rumors: This is the birthplace of intelligence gathering. Rugged agents of Discovery will often choose to visit remote locations to interview the population in attempts to learn local stories, rumors, and hoaxes. By doing this, the agent can get physical knowledge of the entity in question, which will often give Investigation agents more information to work with.
Equipment:
Discovery agents know that information gathering is their forte. They are traditionally equipped as follows:
- Laptop or mini computer with a 48 hour battery life and wireless internet capabilities. These laptops have transponders that allow SPIRE Discovery agents to locate and record multiple spectral waves that anomalies will frequently leave evidence in such as: ultraviolet, infrared, thermal, and various E-band waves.
- Sidearm: Usually a Glock 17 pistol with several magazines. Discovery agents can request special ammunition depending on the circumstances of their search. Available rounds include: tranquilizer darts, tracer rounds, man-stopper rounds, and florescent rounds.
- False Badge: SPIRE agents have access to falsified FBI, CIA, NSA, DPSD, MSS, MI6, and other government investigation and law enforcement agencies. Only a very close inspection of the agent's false story will yield a potential breach in disguise.
- GPS device with ultra-band radio capabilities. The radio is capable of up to 64 miles transmissions, and has emergency signals and encryption built-in.
- Additional equipment can requested from the Requisition division.

Most Recent Discoveries:
Discovery: A lamp that was capable of attracting poltergeist spirits was found in St. Louis. This object has been relocated to the main holding in London.
Discovery: Seven silver forks, believed to be instruments in several murders, were found in Baghdad. Each silver fork represented one of the seven deadly sins and would inexplicably fill nearby subjects with the overwhelming feelings of the associated sin. Items have been contained in a vault in London.
Discovery: A cult of vampire worshipers were found in Anchorage. After hostile interactions with SPIRE, the cult was terminated.
